Linen Press is looking for beautifully written manuscripts which surprise us with their style and content.

We welcome submissions from established writers, emergent writers, writers from minority groups, writers from outside the UK, and those who have translated novels into English as a second language. The focus is on literary fiction, top end contemporary fiction and memoir. Non-fiction that is relevant to women’s lives and experiences will also be considered. You will see from our publications that we are building a list of authors from all over the world.

Linen Press fills the niche left by the big publishers who fill the chain book stores with celebrity memoirs and block-busters. We publish only three or four books a year to the highest possible standard. If a manuscript shows considerable promise but is not quite ready for publication, we will discuss editing and re-writing with you, and will collaborate with you from manuscript to finished book. We are a hands-on publisher and we practise what we preach.

We do not publish children’s books, romantic fiction, science fiction, horror, chick lit, short stories or illustrated stories. Please don’t send any submissions in these genres because they will not be read.

We are happy to receive unsolicited submissions as long as they fit the ethos of the Linen Press.

Please send a one page introductory letter, a synopsis, and the first two chapters. If you have a writing CV, please send that too.

Rejections

I am sorry but I no longer have time to write a personal letter to every writer who sends in a manuscript which is not right for Linen Press. If I did respond to each of you, I would do nothing else. As a writer, I know how disappointing it is to receive a standard rejection letter but a rejection from me does not necessarily mean that you do not have talent. It may be that your submission is not suitable for this small publishing house or that your writing is a long way off ready for publication.
