Synopsis
Long ago, I would tell you a fairy tale about an Ice Queen who melted, a Princess who kissed her Prince awake, a Magician who changed gold into lead. Today, now, I will tell you about the real world: about middle-age and makeovers, counselling and cutting-rooms. About my valiant friend Clara and how she found her heart. About me, and how I lost mine.
When Jo’s husband dyes his hair green and leaves her for his publicist, she applies for a television makeover show - The Making of Her - in the hope that changing her body will change her life.
Jo’s best friend Clara, an award-winning producer, is given no choice but to direct the new show. Clara’s career, along with her feminist principles, is crumbling. Is she too old for the job? And is David Wood – an unconventional counsellor – the answer? Falling in love with her therapist was never in the plan.
And in Islington, rock star Pete Street clings to his self-imposed isolation. Ten years ago, he locked up his studio and left his soul inside.
Three individuals left on the shelf: past their sell-by dates in a youth-obsessed culture.
Then the lives of Jo, Clara and Pete collide.
Will transformation come from the inside out, or from the outside in? And will The Making of Her be the making of them all?
